Long before either camp existed, this part of the Cauvery was already known among anglers worldwide for the Mahseer — one of the largest tropical sporting fish on Earth. Today, the Mahseer is a protected species, and the exact current rules genuinely vary by source: some describe a strict catch-and-release policy, others describe fishing for it as no longer permitted at all. Either way, come expecting to observe this remarkable fish in its habitat, not to take one home.

Wildlife Beyond the Fish
Elephants, deer, marsh crocodiles, and turtles — including the endemic Leith's Soft-Shelled Turtle — are regularly spotted, along with the highly endangered grizzled giant squirrel. Over 200 bird species have been recorded. Leopards are present but a rare, bonus sighting.

Coracle rides, kayaking, zip-lining, and rope-walking are offered at both camps, alongside jungle treks. Bheemeshwari also has an on-site Ayurveda hut run by Kottakkal Aryavaidya Sala — a genuinely unusual amenity for a JLR wildlife camp.
