Guest BathroomAreca County is a small, owner-managed heritage homestay near Honnavar, with just five cottages set within an arecanut plantation around a 1929 heritage home. The experience is intentionally different from a large conventional resort: fewer rooms, a quieter plantation setting and a strong emphasis on local character.
For vegetarian travellers and families, one of the most important points is straightforward: Areca County states that it prepares and serves only vegetarian food. Its 1929 Diner is a pure vegetarian kitchen serving simple South Indian and local cuisine, and the property states that it does not sell alcohol.
It is also unusual because the same stay is positioned as pet friendly and offers EV charging. For travellers who need either of these facilities, it is worth confirming the current arrangements before booking.
A property where vegetarian food is the kitchen itself, rather than simply one section of a mixed restaurant menu.
Dogs and cats are welcome. The current pet charge is ₹1,000 per stay; pets are not allowed in the dining hall and should remain leashed around other guests.
A guest-use outdoor wall socket is available; bring your own compatible charger. This is a convenience charging facility, not a fast-charging station.
Honnavar can work as one central base instead of changing hotels, with the property listing Murudeshwar at about 33 km and Gokarna at about 50 km.
Standard Non-AC Cottage: mainly suited to two adults who do not require air-conditioning. The property describes it at around 400 sq ft with a king bed and plantation view.
Deluxe AC Cottage: similar couple-oriented scale with air-conditioning and additional in-room conveniences. This is the more logical choice when AC matters to you on the coast.
Family Cottage: the larger option, described at over 600 sq ft and intended for two adults travelling with children. Confirm children's ages, current occupancy and exact bedding arrangement before payment.
Travellers often treat Gokarna and Murudeshwar as separate overnight stops. Staying near Honnavar offers another possibility: unpack once and explore the coast in both directions, particularly when frequent hotel changes are inconvenient for the family.
For a relaxed two- or three-night trip, keep one day for the Honnavar side, use another for Murudeshwar, and another for Gokarna if time permits. This works particularly well for families who dislike frequent hotel changes. Do not try to pack every beach, temple and coastal attraction into the same day.

Areca County welcomes dogs and cats. The current pet charge shared by the property is ₹1,000 per stay. Pets are not permitted inside the dining hall.
When other guests are around, pets should remain leashed rather than being allowed to roam freely. As pet policies can change, reconfirm the current arrangements while booking, especially if travelling with more than one pet.
Areca County provides an outdoor wall socket for EV charging as a convenience for staying guests. Guests need to bring their own compatible EV charger/cable. This is not a fast-charging station and is not intended as a public charging point for outside vehicles.
Padaki Travel Desk guest benefit: for bookings made through Padaki Travel Desk, Areca County currently offers complimentary EV charging between 9 AM and 3 PM using available solar power. The property does not have metered EV billing, so this should be treated as a guest convenience rather than a commercial charging service. Please reconfirm the arrangement before travel.

The cottages are built around a 1929 heritage home and use a regional architectural language that includes laterite stone, wood and traditional tiled roofing. The surrounding arecanut plantation is part of the experience rather than simply landscaping, and a farm walk can be arranged in advance.
The property also documents specific sustainability practices including solar power with battery storage, water-saving fixtures, LED lighting, refillable toiletries and drinking-water containers, local sourcing and food-waste management. These give travellers a clearer picture of what the property's sustainability approach means in practice.
Areca County is probably not the right choice if your priority is a large full-service resort, swimming pool, spa, party atmosphere, non-vegetarian dining or alcohol. It is also not a property we would select simply because someone wants the cheapest room near Honnavar.
It is better suited to travellers who appreciate a small property, vegetarian food, plantation and heritage surroundings, and a convenient base for exploring this stretch of the Karnataka coast.
