Given the remote forest location, the infrastructure is basic. The falls and the surrounding Sahyadri forest are the reason to come here — not hotel amenities. The Four Cascades
Raja — the main fall, dropping in a single unbroken plunge of 253 metres into the gorge below. At peak flow it carries up to 33,000 cubic feet of water per second. Rani — a more graceful series of steps alongside Raja. Rocket — a narrow, powerful jet that shoots out from the rockface. Roarer — a wide turbulent cascade that lives up to its name during peak monsoon.
The Steps to the Base Pool
Steps lead down 1,200 steps from the main viewpoint to the base pool at the foot of the falls — a demanding 45-minute descent and 60-minute climb back. The pool at the bottom, with the 253-metre fall thundering above, is one of the most extraordinary natural experiences in Karnataka. Recommended for fit visitors in the October-January season when the path is dry.

August to January is the peak period — the falls carry full monsoon flow through October and the water continues strong through November and December. By March the flow reduces significantly. In the dry months (April-June) the Sharavathi may be reduced to a trickle. Staying at Mayura Gerusoppa in this window means waking to a full-flow waterfall — an experience impossible to replicate as a day visitor.
