Wildlife & Bird Sanctuaries in Karnataka

There are good number of Wildlife and Bird Sanctuaries in Karnataka. We have outlined most of the known sanctuaries for you to plan a visit some time soon.

  • Anshi National Park - It is located in Uttara Kannada District adjoining Dandeli Wildlife Sanctuary in Karnataka. You can spot Black Panthers, Mouse Deers and Wild Deer in this national park.
     
  • Gudavai Bird Sanctuary - Spread over an area of 0.74 Sq. kms, it is located in Shimoga District. Grey Heron, Little Coromorant, Night Heron are among the few varieties of bird species found in this bird sanctauary.
     
  • Mandagadde Bird Sanctuary - Another bird sanctuary located 30 kms from Shimoga district and spread over 1.14 acres and an opportunity to spot migratory birds like Median Egret, Darter, Little Cormorant etc.
     
  • Mookambika Wildlife Sanctuary - It is located near Kollur in South Canara district. Slender loris, lion-tailed macaque, sambar and chital are some of the animals found here.
     
  • Sharavathi Wildlife Sanctuary - This is located in Shimoga district and is spread over 431.23 square kilometres. Paradise flycatcher, Racket-tailed Drongo and Blue-throated Barbet are some of the bird species found here.
     
  • Pushpagiri Wildlife Sanctuary - Located in Coorg district spread over 102.59 sq. kms.
     
  • Talacauvery Wildlife Sanctuary - It is also located in Coorg/ Kodagu district spread over 105 sq. kms.
     
  • Shettihalli Wildlife Sanctuary - Spread over 395 sq. kms located in shimoga district, tiger, leapord, malabard gaint squirrel are some of the species found here.
     
  • Someshwara Wildlife Sanctuary - Located in Udupi district, spread over 84 sq. kms. Lion tailed macaque and spotted deer are commonly sighted here.
